On Monday October 5, 2009 at approximately 9:00 pm the YFD engine and 4 Firefighters sent to the Sheep Fire returned to Yuma. Word had been received earlier in the day that the Imperial Valley Strike Team including Yuma Fire Department’s personnel was beginning the demobilization process in preparation for returning home. Demobilization includes checking that equipment is inspected and ready for the trip.

Weather conditions had been very favorable to firefighting operations, with temperatures dropping at times into the 30s. At last report the fire was more than 30% contained. Over 1700 personnel had been assigned to the Sheep Fire. Incweb.org was reporting that “Firefighters have been successful in keeping the fire from burning into Wrightwood” and “minimal fire activity was observed today”.

The YFD personnel that had been part of the strike team were Captain Richard Root, Engineer Eric Lohman, Firefighter Jesse Townley, and Firefighter Scot Beebe.
