Yuma, Arizona - In order to make traffic patterns match with ADOT's 16th Street widening project, the contractor working the 16th Street/Arizona Avenue improvements project for the City will close Arizona Avenue between 15th and 16th streets beginning this evening, Tuesday, Sept. 29.

DPE changed their construction schedule in order to make sure that the intersection of Arizona Avenue and 15th Street is open to motorists by the time the ADOT project reduces 16th Street lanes in that immediate vicinity, currently scheduled for Oct. 6.  At that time, 16th Street is expected to be reduced to one lane of travel in each direction between Arizona Avenue and Yuma Palms Parkway/Sunridge Drive.  Arizona Avenue will be closed completely to all traffic between 15th and 16th streets through Tuesday, Oct. 6.

This work affects business access to the bank, gas station and restaurants in that immediate vicinity. During this phase of construction, access to National Bank of Arizona, Chevron/Blimpie's, Golden Corral and Texas Roadhouse will come exclusively via right turns off of westbound 16th Street.  Doing the work now assures that 15th Street access will be available once the ADOT lane restrictions tighten.
