On Monday September 28, 2009 shortly before 8:30 am a fire was reported in the area of 27th Street and Virginia Drive. Arriving Yuma Fire Department personnel found a garage at 2655 South Los Amigos Drive with heavy flames and smoke coming from it. Firefighters quickly brought the fire under control before it was able to extend into the residence. The garage and contents sustained significant fire and smoke damage.

The fire was first discovered by an adult female resident who was outside with a friend and noticed smoke coming from the garage. The woman entered the home and woke up her adult son who was sleeping inside. They reported the fire and safely exited the residence. There were no injuries. The fire is under investigation.
