City News And Yuma Le Informa Showcase The Yuma Community In Western Access Video Excellence (W.A.V.E) Awards
Yuma, Arizona - The City of Yuma Strategic Communications Staff was notified today of their selection as a finalist in two categories for the prestigious Western Access Video Excellence (W.A.V.E) Awards.
This is the second year in a row the City has been selected as a W.A.V.E. Award finalist. "To have two of our programs selected as a finalist among entries from Hollywood, Burbank, Las Vegas, Albuquerque, Tucson, Santa Barbara, Los Angeles, and Phoenix is a great honor", said Greg Hyland, Director of Communications and Public Affairs for the City. "CityNews has been revamped this year to include new weekly features. Yuma le Informa was our first program produced entirely in Spanish, developed to share information about the Yuma community with our Spanish-speaking residents and visitors."
CityNews is a finalist in the Municipal Government Access (Professional) category. Yuma le Informa is a finalist in Special Audience Programming (Professional). Video Production and Operations Specialist Geoff Montgomery produces CityNews weekly. New episodes are cablecast (Monday to Sunday) starting Monday nights at 10:30 p.m. on City73. Dave Nash hosts CityNews, with on-site reporting by Chuck Nordquist, Yuma Fire Department Public Information Officers Mike Erfert and Kayla Holiman, and the Yuma Police Department's Sergeant Clint Norred and Master Police Officer Russ Hartley.
Yuma le Informa is produced weekly by Television Production and Operations Manager Joel Barrera with Javier Morales, the City's International Relations Specialist, serving as the host. Yuma le Informa is shown on Ciudad72, the City of Yuma's Spanish language channel.
"I'm very proud of our Strategic Communications staff and the great programs they create to help us better communicate with our citizens", said Yuma Mayor Larry Nelson. "Each year they expand and enhance what they produce, finding out what the community wants, and then providing those programs in both English and Spanish. They do this in addition to covering City Council Meetings, hosting radio shows, and organizing special events. They're working every day to expand the City of Yuma's key areas of Communication, Accessibility, Commitment, and Innovation."
The last few years have been very fruitful for the City's Strategic Communications Team. In 2008, the City brought home two (2) W.A.V.E. Awards for Yuma le Informa in the Special Audience Programming and Programming that Made a Difference categories. In recent years, the City also received award recognition from the City-County Communications and Marketing Association (3CMA) and the Association of Marketing and Communication Professionals, which include the Savvy and Hermes Awards.
The W.A.V.E. Awards will be presented on Saturday, October 17th in Reno, Nevada. Geoff Montgomery, the producer of CityNews, is scheduled to attend the ceremonies.
Episodes of CityNews and Yuma le Informa, as well as all other City of Yuma television programs, are available as video on demand on both the Internet and Channel 71, on Time Warner Cable, via the City's website - http://www.yumaaz.gov/.
