Helpers Sought To Prep, Paint Houses For Low-Income Elderly And Disabled

Yuma, Arizona - Get your teams of volunteers together to help those in need - it's almost time for the next Rock & Roll Paint-A-Thon.

Once again this year, the City of Yuma is teaming up with Yuma County, Western Arizona Council of Governments (WACOG), Services Maximizing Independent Living and Empowerment (SMILE) and a Phoenix organization known as Rebuilding Together to brighten the homes - and days - of low-income elderly and disabled individuals as part of National Make A Difference Day.

Teams of volunteers will prep the qualifying homes 8 a.m. to noon Saturday, Oct. 17 and then will return for the painting the following Saturday, 8 a.m. to noon Oct. 24. When all the work is done, volunteers will be treated to a picnic at the Martin Luther King Jr. Neighborhood Center.

Spill some paint on your shirt? No problem: all volunteers get a free T-shirt while supplies last.

This year, any employer, club, church group, nonprofit organization or other affiliation that sponsors a home to be painted can hang a banner at the home site.

Individuals are welcome to volunteer as well as teams.

To volunteer, visit the Rebuilding Together web site or call Alma Clark at WACOG, (928) 782-1886, Ext. 158.
