Though mid-afternoon today a line of storms has been passing through the Yuma area. Emergency personnel have been responding to various storm related problems. Electrical transformer fires, power lines down, vehicle accidents, and stalled vehicles have kept things busy.

We would like to remind Yuma residents that if they do not have to go out in a storm, don’t. Visibility is reduced, storm run-off and/or debris in the roadway could make driving hazardous.

If you must go out, please use extra caution. Treat any intersection where the traffic control lights are out as if it was controlled by 4 way stop signs. Avoid underpasses with standing water. Several vehicles have stalled trying to drive through storm run-off on Araby Road under the I-8 overpass.

Treat any lines down as live power lines. Avoid them and report them.

We know that most Yumans enjoy a good rain storm, please be safe and enjoy CAREFULLY!
