Come Out And Play Day Set; Disc Golf; Art Center Galleries Re-Open; Yuma Star
Come Out And Play Day Sept. 19
It's almost time once again for the annual "Come Out and Play Day," set for 9 a.m. to noon Sept. 19 at Kennedy Park. It will be a Saturday morning filled with games, activities, and swimming for children of all ages and their families to play and have fun. This is your chance to sample what Yuma Parks and Recreation has to offer, for free. The pool will be open, so don't forget your swimsuit and towel.
Disc Golf Course Open At West Wetlands
Yuma's fist disc golf course has been installed at the West Wetlands Park and is ready for your enjoyment. The Parks and Recreation Department has discs for rent at a cost of $5 with a $20 deposit that is returned to you when the discs are returned to us. Try it out!
Parks Maintenance Projects
Victoria Meadows is getting some new structures put in. The shade cover is up and concrete footings are being poured. Electrical conduit was laid for new electric lights and the drinking fountain.
Security gates are being installed at the new dog park. A water transmission line was put in for the drinking fountain and pickets are being worked on for the donors at the dog park.
The maintenance staff is preparing the softball fields for the start of the season on Tuesday, Sept. 8.
Over seeding will soon be occurring at the parks and golf courses. The golf courses will be closed for over seeding Sept. 28 through Oct. 15.
Yuma Star Singing Competition
The Group One - Round One phase of the Yuma Star competition hits the stage at the Historic Yuma Theatre, 254 S. Main St. in historic downtown Yuma at 7p.m. on Wednesday, Sept. 9. The Yuma Star Competition is sponsored by the Yuma Sun Newspaper. This always exciting show series highlights the best talent in Yuma bringing down the rafters with great local talent singing their hearts out, competing for the coveted Yuma Star! Tickets are $4 from the Yuma Sun and at the door. Yuma Art Center Galleries Fresh From Hiatus
After a brief hiatus for a little paint and sprucing up, the Yuma Art Center Galleries have re-opened and are ready for another busy season. The visiting public will be treated to several exciting presentations this month including an exhibit on the Navaho Code Talkers of World War II and an exhibition sponsored by Cultural Council of Yuma entitled "Augurios y Presagios". Family Hang Time
Washoes, dodge ball, games and a climbing wall are all on the menu during our Family Hang Time 6 to 8:30 p.m. on Fridays at the Yuma Readiness Center. By the end of the evening, you're sure to be hungry, so chow down on the large pizza provided for your family. These fabulous evenings don't begin until October, but we recommend you register now, as advance registration is required. Hang Time will take place and the cost is only $11 per family.
MLK Teen Center
Are you a teen looking for a cool place to hang out after school and on the weekends? The MLK Teen Center has foosball, ping pong, video games, billiards, art & cooking classes, and more all for your enjoyment. It's only $8 for a year's membership and the teen center is open 6 days a week. Come check it out or call 373-5234 for more information.
Tiny Tots
Tiny Tots is our program for preschool-age children. If you are looking for a learning environment that inspires creativity and imagination in your tot, this is the place for you. Located at the Clymer Recreation Center (Tiny Tots I) and the Yuma Readiness Center (Tiny Tots II), the first session begins on Sept. 8. Registration has begun and space is limited. Little Steps
Bring your child and play together in Little Steps, a program designed to foster group interaction with other children and their parents. You will make some new friends in this class. Session One begins Sept. 11 and will take place at the Yuma Readiness Center. This program is offered to children ages 1-4. Call 373-5243 for more information

Yuma Parks and Recreation's 2009-2010 Fall/Winter Activities Guide is the source for all the exciting programs, classes, leagues, special events, lessons and more for this fall and upcoming winter. Pick one up today at any Parks & Recreation office or check it out on the web at www.yumaaz.gov/parksandrec. Registration for most classes can be done online anytime for your convenience.
Take Pride In Yuma
There were 103 cases of graffiti abated the week of Aug. 26 through Sept. 1.
Graffiti cleanup and vandalism currently costs the Yuma taxpayers over $200,000.00 per year. Please help us reduce vandalism by reporting incidences of crime to 78-Crime (782- 7463) and graffiti to the Grafitti Busters hot line, 329-2828. If you witness a crime in progress, call 911.

Tickets to Art Center, Historic Theatre or Civic Center events can be purchased by phone, in person or online. The Art Center and theatre box office is located at 254 S. Main St., or call 373-5202. The Civic Center is located at 1440 W. Desert Hills Drive just off Avenue A at 36th Street, or call 373-5040. Tickets to shows at both locations are online at www.YumaAZ.gov/events.

Call 373-5200, or stop by the Parks and Recreation office on the first floor of City Hall, One City Plaza (between 1st and Madison avenues at Giss Parkway) between 7 a.m. and 6 p.m. Monday through Thursday and 7 a.m. to 5 p.m. every other Friday (closed alternating Fridays).
