Yuma, Arizona - The City of Yuma held its primary election Tuesday, Sept. 1, where voters set out to narrow the field of candidates for the offices of Mayor and Presiding Municipal Judge and three seats on the City Council.
Polls closed at 7 p.m. The current count reflects 6,023 ballots cast, including approximately 5,025 early ballots that have been processed and counted and results from all of the 16 precincts. Approximately 1,200 additional early ballots, plus any provisional ballots, remain to be counted.

As they are released, election results may be viewed on the City's web site, www.YumaAz.gov/election, or on the City's Time Warner Cable channels City 73 and Ciudad 72.
Percentages reflect "a percentage of the total number of ballots cast," rather than a percentage of the total number of votes cast, because Yuma City Council seats are considered at-large, and each ballot may contain up to three votes for members of the City Council.
Should any primary election candidate accumulate votes on 50 percent plus one of the total number of ballots cast, that candidate will be elected to office and will not participate in the November general election.
The top two finishers per remaining open seat will move on to the general election on Nov. 3. That means that at least three mayoral candidates and at least two council candidates will be eliminated as a result of the final tally of primary election ballots.
