16th Street Lanes Open At Avenue A

Yuma, Arizona - Good news for 16th Street commuters - progress is being made on the Avenue A widening and 16th Street-Arizona Avenue intersection improvement projects.

Beginning early Wednesday morning, Avenue A will reopen to through traffic at 16th Street following a weeklong-plus closure at points both north and south of the intersection for paving. Avenue A will have one lane open in each direction, north and south. The traffic signal at the intersection will be reactivated, with northbound traffic and southbound traffic operating alternately, one direction at a time. This will allow for left turns onto 16th Street from both directions.

Additionally, 16th Street will reopen to two lanes of east-west traffic in both directions, with full left-turn capability onto Avenue A.

Arizona Avenue Project

Beginning early Thursday morning, Arizona Avenue will be opened to limited traffic on the north side of the intersection with 16th Street. This will allow for "right-in, right-out" traffic, meaning westbound 16th Street may turn right onto northbound Arizona Avenue, and southbound Arizona Avenue will be allowed to turn right onto westbound 16th Street.

All other detours and business access routes continue to apply. 16th Street will have one open lane in each direction with no left turns permitted between Maple and Riley avenues. Arizona Avenue remains closed to all traffic south of 16th Street.
