Pools To Open For Summer Afterward

Yuma, Arizona - The official ribbon cutting ceremony for the new Valley Aquatic Center will take place at 12:45 p.m. Thursday, July 2, in front of the center, 4381 W. 18th St.  Members of the public are welcome to attend.

Mayor Larry Nelson and Superintendent Toni Badone of Yuma Union High School District will speak at the ceremony for the aquatic facility, which was made possible through a partnership between the City of Yuma and Yuma Union High School District. Afterward, the Valley Aquatic Center will open to the general public for its regular open swim hours, 1 to 7:30 p.m.

While the ceremony in front of the center is free to attend, the standard admission charge for the center's open swim periods applies; it is $2 per youth (17 and under) and $3.50 per adult. The concession stand will be open for those entering the facility.

The Valley Aquatic Center is located just northwest of the Cibola High School campus. Its state-of-the art-features include a 13-lane competition pool, diving boards, a splash pad, a leisure pool with zero-depth (beach-like) entry, play features, a slide, dumping buckets, geysers, shaded picnic areas and a bathhouse with family changing areas. Next to the snack bar is a room that can be rented for birthday parties, etc.

For more information about the aquatic center or to inquire about the purchase of monthly or season passes, please call Parks and Recreation at (928) 373-5243.
