On November 18, 2008 seven members of the Yuma Police Department, along with other local agencies will attend a National Safekids Child Seat Training Course in Winterhaven, California.  The weeklong course will certify the students as Child Passenger Safety Technicians, which will allow them to instruct and supervise the public with the proper installation and use of child seats.

On Friday, November 21st from 8:00 am to 12:00 pm, at Walmart at 2900 South Pacific Avenue, the Yuma County Safekids will host a child seat inspection event.  This event will have certified Child Passenger Safety Technicians supervising the students that attended the weeklong course as their final certification process. The event is free to the public.

Beginning in January 2009, the Yuma Police Department plans to host quarterly child seat inspection events in the Yuma area to further educate the public on the importance of proper installation and use of child seats. In addition to the four quarterly events, the public may contact the Yuma Police Department for questions or assistance with proper installation and use of child seats.

The local media is encouraged to attend the child seat inspection event on Friday.  If you plan to cover the event, please contact me at (928) 373-4715.
