Yuma, Arizona —  ’Tis the season … for street sealin’.  City of Yuma residents in several neighborhoods should expect minor, temporary inconveniences as the City extends the pavement life of their streets.

The City of Yuma Public Works Department will apply "fog sealant," a fresh oil spray that can rejuvenate the pavement for 3 to 5 years, beginning November 5th to the pavement in the following subdivisions:

  1. Barkley Ranch 6, 7.
  2. Terraces at the View 2.
  3. Cielo Verde 1.
  4. Trail Estates 4.
  5. Tillman Estates 1, 2, 3.
  6. Citrus View 1, 2.
  7. Myers Ranch.

Residents of these neighborhoods should keep a close watch for door hangers and temporary signs that will provide them 24 hours’ notice before their street will be worked on.

Normal working hours are 6 a.m. to 3 p.m.  The schedule call for streets being worked on to reopen by 2 p.m. daily.

Fog seal should not be confused with the slurry seal activity that has been scheduled to begin this week as well.  The sealing projects are taking place in different neighborhoods and use different application processes.

“The biggest difference is the curing process,” said City of Yuma Street Maintenance Supervisor Mark Stewart.  “The slurry seal is going on one street at a time, while the fog seal goes on half a street, or one lane at a time.”

Fog seal is wet when applied and will need a few hours to dry and set after application. No driving or water can be allowed on the street after application until the oil has set and dried.

The program is expected to run thru the second week of January, with breaks in the program for the holidays.
