Yuma, Arizona - Yuma residents will have more than just another opportunity to chat with members of the Yuma City Council and City staff about important city topics—they can actively participate in helping to create Yuma’s future simply by writing ideas on little yellow sticky notes.

Mondays with the Mayor and City Council will return on Monday, November 3rd, 2008, once again asking residents to “Dream Yuma.” A facilitator will ask a few short, open-ended questions, and residents will be asked to participate by writing down whatever comes to mind on anonymous sticky notepads. Later, they may be asked to organize those ideas into categories or rate them in terms of favorites.

The event will take place at Fire Station No. 4, 2850 W. 16th St., beginning at 6 p.m. Mayor Larry Nelson and Councilmember Raul Mendoza will be participating in this month’s event.

“Dream Yuma will give City residents the opportunity to share their vision of Yuma’s future”, said Greg Hyland, Director of Communications and Public Affairs. “We’ve been through the community twice over the past 12 months meeting at our neighborhood fire stations. Now we want to engage in conversations both about the Yuma of Tomorrow and the Yuma of today. We want to discuss possibilities; what gifts exist in our community, what dreams we have of the future and what problems or concerns we have today. We also want to talk about how we can work together to solve the current problems and make sure we arrive at our vision of the Yuma of the future.”

Representatives from the City of Yuma Community Development Department, Fire Department, Police Department, Engineering Department, Parks and Recreation Department, and other city staff will be in attendance to provide information about the area surrounding Fire Station #4. While staff members will have specific information relevant to the immediate surrounding neighborhoods, any city resident is welcome to attend and participate.

“The City of Yuma continues its commitment to communication and accessibility,” City Administrator Mark Watson said at the series outset. “We are proud to offer our residents another opportunity to join with their elected officials and City staff to discuss their vision about the future of our community. “
