Yuma, Arizona —  Area motorists and some City of Yuma residents can anticipate minor, temporary inconveniences as the City works to add five years of life to a number of area streets.

The City of Yuma Public Works Department will apply "slurry seal" starting November 3rd and continuing through November 21st.  The project generally includes the following areas and subdivisions:

  1. “Hotel Hill” area, Sunridge Drive and 18th Street.
  2. College Park subdivisions 1, 2, 3, 4, 5.
  3. Desert Ridge subdivisions 1, 2.
  4. Tamarack subdivisions 1, 2, 3.
  5. Vista Del Sol subdivisions 1, 2, 3, 4, 5.
  6. Kofa Acres.
  7. Kofa Estates.
  8. Triple S Industrial Park.
  9. 40th Street between Avenue B ½ to Avenue C.

Slurry seal is a mixture of asphalt emulsion, water, sand and concrete. It provides a cost-effective new wearing surface that can extend the life of the pavement by at least five years.

“When applied to residential streets, the slurry seal takes up to eight hours from the time of application through the drying process,” said City of Yuma Street Maintenance Supervisor Mark Stewart.  “Basically, the contractor can be in and out of an area rather quickly, with little inconvenience to neighborhood traffic.”

The City of Yuma Public Works Department employees will serve as the inspectors for the contractor applying the slurry seal.

Dates of individual streets to be worked on are being updated at this time and are subject to change depending on progress at individual sites.  Individual home dwellers will usually receive 24 hours’ notice of the date when work will be done on their street through messages hung on front doors and the placement of “no parking” signs.
