Yuma, Arizona — The City of Yuma’s Neighborhood Services Division is part of a multi-agency campaign to help paint the houses of low-income and elderly Yuma residents—and you can still be a part of the fun.

The Rock & Roll Paint-A-Thon takes place 8 a.m. to noon this Saturday, October 25th.  Coordinated in conjunction with National Make A Difference Day, it’s a community-based effort to assisted homeowners with limited financial resources who are 60 years of age or older and/or have a permanent disability and are unable to do the work themselves.

Preparation work was done last weekend, so this weekend’s volunteers should come comfortably dressed in paint-friendly clothing and be ready to paint.

Anyone wishing to volunteer may:

  • Call Alma Clark at (928) 782-1886, Ext. 158.
  • Log on to www.rtevents.org. (This link will take you to an external website that is not part of the City of Yuma official website.)
  • Arrive in person at the volunteer headquarters, which is the Martin Luther King Jr. Neighborhood Center, 3rd Street and 13th Avenue, at 7:30 a.m. that day.

Volunteers consist of individuals and teams.  In addition to having limited paint supplies provided for them, they will receive a free T-shirt and will be treated to lunch at the MLK Center afterward.

The Rock & Roll Paint-A-Thon is sponsored locally by City of Yuma Neighborhood Services, Western Arizona Council of Governments, Yuma County and S.M.I.L.E. Independent Living Center.

Members of the media may contact Public Affairs Coordinator Dave Nash at (928) 373-5015, or (928) 941-0199, or Director of Communications and Public Affairs Greg Hyland, CPM at (928) 373-5023 or (928) 580-4751.
