Born and raised in Inkster, MI and a graduate of Inkster High School, Councilmember Thomas, following in his father's and grandfather's footsteps, joined the U.S. Army and served for over five years as a Cartographer. A few years later and breaking family tradition, Councilmember Thomas joined the U.S. Marine Corps and retired after serving over 15 years as an Administrative Chief. Councilmember Thomas retired from the Marine Corps in October 2005, after completing his last tour of duty with 3d Bn, 4th Marines, 29 Palms, CA. CouncilmemberThomas has called Yuma, Arizona, home since March 2006.
Councilmember Thomas was stationed aboard MCAS Yuma, Arizona, as an Administrative Chief with VMA-214, from April 2000 - October 2003. While in Yuma, Edward married Imelda Coronado and earned his bachelor's degree from the University of Phoenix in Information Technology. The Thomas' have two sons, Joshua and Julian. Councilmember Thomas enjoys exercising, reading, contemporary jazz, contemporary gospel music, and enjoys playing his alto sax. He also worships with Trinity Christian Center.
Edward was co-chair of the 2010 Census Committee and co-chair of the 2011 City of Yuma Charter Review Committee and is a current board member of the Yuma Library Foundation. He is currently employed as a Federal employee for a local agency.
Councilmember Thomas believes that government is for the people and his only boss are the residents and taxpayers of our City. He believes in limited government and that it is the duty of our local government to create an environment which will allow businesses to thrive and create jobs.
Councilmember Thomas is both honored and humbled that the residents of this City have chosen him to serve and represent them. He will proudly serve the residents and taxpayers with all sincerity, equality, consistency, fairness and respect.
