- Nomination forms are being accepted at the Yuma Art Center through Tuesday, September 6, 2011 at 5:00 p.m.

"Yuma is a remarkable community with a large and growing number of dedicated artists and arts patrons as well as businesses and organizations who fully realize the importance of the arts as a tool for economic and personal development," said Rex Ijams, Arts and Culture Program Manager for the City of Yuma. "The Tribute of the Muses recognition event is Yuma's occasion to recognize and honor those who have graciously and unselfishly contributed their resources in support of the arts. We encourage everyone to submit nominations so that we may spotlight those individuals whose support of the arts means so much to Yuma."
The person, persons or group honored reflects acknowledged excellence in a chosen arts field, years of service in the local arts community, leadership, arts advocacy or encouragement of others to become involved in the arts or philanthropy. Nominees may be full or part-time artists, art teachers, leaders, supporters or volunteers in the arts community. They should have a recognized track record as a champion of the arts during their lifetimes through creative contribution, gifts of time and support. Past years' winners have been chosen from a broad spectrum of the arts including dance, music, art education and the visual arts. The selection of our honoree is made by the Yuma Parks, Arts, and Recreation Commission and Public Art Committee.

The name "Tribute of the Muses" originates from Greek Mythology where the nine daughters of Zeus, called Muses, each possessed a distinct gift among the disciplines of poetry, art, dance and music and were considered the inspiration for the arts and sciences.
