The City of Yuma Parks & Recreation department invites local residents to celebrate Mexico’s Independence Day with an artistic and culturally immersive free community event during the Fiestas Patrias Street Fair at the Yuma Civic Center on Friday, September 15, 2017 from 5 p.m. to 10 p.m.
The event kicks off at 5 p.m. with a street fair in the parking areas of the Yuma Civic Center.
Fiestas Patrias Street Fair, a FREE ADMISSION event that celebrates Mexico’s Independence Day! The Yuma Civic Center, United for Yuma and the Consulate of Mexico present the Fiestas Patrias Street Fair Celebration from 5 pm - 10 pm on Friday, September 15, 2017.
You and your friends will enjoy the many booth and table exhibits, artifacts, food, live entertainment featuring the Gadsden School District Mariachi, Banda Sinaloense, Grupo Folklorico, musical and artistic presentations from Mexico and a meaningful international experience. Mexican Independence Day, also referred to as Dieciséis de Septiembre, is celebrated the evening of September 15 with a re-creation of the ‘Grito de Dolores’. Thousands of friends of México, arrive to witness and participate in the reenactment of the famous cry, as it was first pronounced by Hidalgo.
The 2015 inaugural event was a cooperative venture between the Consulate of Mexico and City of Yuma Mayor Doug Nicholls’ United for Yuma campaign, which focuses on building relationships and sustaining efforts to foster bilateral relations among local governments on both sides of the border.
