Dream Yuma

Have you ever dreamed of some change to Yuma that could really make our city great?  If you could reshape Yuma, what would it look like?  Let your ideas flow and...

I'm dreaming of a Yuma...

  • with homeless and LGBTQIA + rehabilitation and programs that specifically focus on the needs of these communities. A starting point should include gender and sexuality trainings in large and small businesses, especially mental health.
  • with a converted Main Street to something like the RiverWalk in Texas with small craft access from the Colorado River and utilizing the existing parking on the East and West of Main Street for vehicles. Imagine numerous bridges over the 'riverwalk' to have access to both sides of Main Street. We could offer gondola tours by having the 'riverwalk' in a loop to the river. If large enough, it could even accommodate small craft and jet skis. As part of this, visualize having apartments and condos along the 'riverwalk' loop giving access for visitors and residents alike to shopping on Main Street and beyond.
  • with a downtown that expands. Instead of allowing a 14 million dollar softballcomplex, why doesn't the city use that moneyto revitalize the downtown area? The cost of renovating the downtown spaces should not all fall on the business owners and entrepreneurs alone. Yuma's rich history should be preserved, yes but the responsibility of preservation is that of all Yumans, not just those that wish to better the community by adding more places to eat and explore. Please consider better incentives to create inYuma
  • with fiber optic internet service
  • with an indoor mall so that we don't have to travel to Phoenix or El Centro, CA
  • with a bigger, better botanical garden center
  • with an upscale sports bar or tavern offering deck seating over the river
  • where an Interior Design program is offered at the local college
  • with more riverfront development with an outdoor amphitheatre
  • where the city, businesses, & private property owners keep a high level of maintenance and care to reflect a high level of pride in their city
  • where the city is graffiti free (any graffiti is covered within 24 hours with paint that matches the wall, so it disappears)
  • where the traffic in the city flows easily without congestion
  • with more wind and solar power used
  • with an event center
  • with more law enforcement
  • with a paved, lit and striped parking lot and wrought iron fencing along Arroyo Dunes Golf Course
  • with no additional railroad at the port of entry
  • with other amenities for walking paths
  • with a city gathering place
  • with signs directing and highlighting Roxaboxen Park
  • with laws for enforcing illegal dumping
  • with more solar energy used to supply power to government and commercial buildings
  • with a vibrant downtown
  • with no urban sprawl
  • with turbines for wind energy
  • with higher teacher salaries
  • where county pockets located within city limits have been annexed
  • with a greater focus on senior activities
  • with an ice skating rink
  • with more occupational explanation for youth
  • with an exceptional education environment in and out of school
  • with more major league baseball exhibition games
  • with no significant increase in size
  • with more of a focus on children
