2015 Drowning Impact Awareness Month Proclamation

August was proclaimed “Drowning Impact Awareness Month” in the City of Yuma by Mayor Douglas J. Nicholls. This proclamation was also being made for the State of Arizona by Gov. Douglas A. Ducey.  The purpose is to raise awareness of the number of cases and the impact of child drowning in Arizona. Even though Arizona is considered a desert state, on average, drowning incidents take the lives of the equivalent of a classroom full of children. Children 4 years old and younger are in the highest risk group.

Within the next 3 years, all City residential solid waste customers will have a green barrel to go with their blue recycling barrel.

Beginning the last week of July, the City of Yuma will begin a 3-year process to convert all residential solid waste customers to individual curbside pickups, eliminating trash pickups in alleys.

Amanda Aguirre spoke at the monthly meeting of the Yuma County Fire Officers Association (YCFOA), held Thursday in Somerton, and was recognized for the contributions the Regional Center for Border Health, Inc. has been making to health care in our area. The Center is providing funding to train twelve (12) area Paramedics from nine (9) response agencies serving our region.
