Smoke Alarm Safety Checks

On Monday December 28, 2015 and Tuesday December 29, 2015, Yuma Fire Department Community Risk Reduction (CRR) personnel teamed with volunteers from the Yuma County Community Emergency Response Team (CERT) program, walked a central Yuma neighborhood doing smoke alarm safety checks. Each team, consisting of a CRR and a CERT member, went door to door checking with neighbors to confirm they had working smoke alarms.

On New Year’s Eve, members of the Yuma Fire Department’s Community Risk Reduction (CRR) division will be out performing safety checks to ensure occupancy limits are being observed, and clear exits are being maintained. YFD personnel will be making random checks of properties likely to have larger than normal crowds due to holiday gatherings. Yuma’s Fire Marshal, Kayla Holiman, has asked for businesses to take the proper steps not to exceed occupancy limits and help to protect Yuma’s citizens.

Every New Year’s Eve the Yuma Police Department responds to numerous reports of “shots fired” within the city limits. Some people discharge a firearm into the air to bring in the New Year.  The Yuma Police Department would like to remind the community this is a felony offense and encourage anyone that witnesses this type of criminal activity to call the police department immediately.
