On Thursday April 28, 2016, at about 12:20 pm, the Yuma Fire Department responded to Yuma High School, 400 South 6th Avenue due to a report of a spilled chemical in the Research Building. YFD personnel found that a bottle containing a chemical had accidently fallen and broken in a storeroom. No one was injured but four (4) Yuma High employees and a student were evaluated for possible exposure.
To avoid spreading fumes from the chemical, as a precaution, the air conditioning system for the building was shut down and the building was evacuated. The area of exposure was limited to the storage room, but the Research building remained closed until clean up could be arranged. No other Yuma High buildings were affected and classes remained in session.
Traffic in the area of the 600 block of West 4th Street was blocked off due to several YFD vehicles in the roadway.READ MORE
