1st Ave House Fire

On Friday August 17, 2018, shortly after 8:40 pm, a fire was reported in a vacant house in the 900 block of South 1st Avenue. Upon arrival Yuma Fire Department personnel found heavy smoke and flames coming from a small house. Firefighters were able to confirm the house was vacant and quickly extinguished the fire before it spread to any other structures.

Drowning Impact Awareness Month

At last night’s City Council meeting August was proclaimed “Drowning Impact Awareness Month” in the City of Yuma by Mayor Douglas J. Nicholls. This proclamation was also being made for the State of Arizona by Gov. Douglas A. Ducey.  The purpose is to raise awareness of the number of cases and the impact of child drowning in Arizona. Even though Arizona is considered a desert state, on average, drowning incidents take the lives of many of our state’s children. Children 4 years old and younger are in the highest risk group.

House Fire

On Tuesday August 14, 2018, shortly before 3:30 pm, a house fire was reported in the 2200 block of west Brook Street. Arriving Yuma Fire Department personnel found flames and heavy smoke coming from two homes (2254 and 2258 Brook St.) and a vehicle in the driveway of one of the homes. Firefighters were able to quickly bring the fires under control.
