A City solid waste driver had to dump his load in a vacant lot this morning after discovering smoldering material.

Following a couple of “hot loads” discovered by City solid waste drivers and one melted trash can, the City of Yuma reminds residents to refrain from placing hot coals and smoldering fireworks in city garbage containers.

The City of Yuma Police Department is conducting an impaired driving detail on Thursday, June 29 through Tuesday, July 4. Additional officers will be used to rove city streets looking to stop and arrest drivers who are impaired by alcohol or drugs. These DUI patrols are, in addition to regularly scheduled patrol officers, all looking for the signs of an impaired driver behind the wheel.

The Yuma Police Department has completed the first of many Mental Health First Aid classes, geared toward Public Safety personnel, to be taught to officers and civilian staff. Mental Health First Aid is an 8-hour course that gives staff members skills to help someone who is developing a mental health problem or experiencing a mental health crisis.
