Missing TIC

On September 12, 2017 Yuma Fire Department personnel were on a residential fire response in the George Bell Avenue area. In the course of working on that fire scene a Thermal Imaging Camera (TIC) became separated from a firefighter’s gear. A search of the area was not able to locate the camera and no one has turned it in to authorities. A report has been made with the Yuma Police Department.

Of the Year Award Winners

The week of October 8th thru the 14th is Fire Prevention Week nationwide and also has been proclaimed here in Yuma by Mayor Douglas Nicholls. Observation of Fire Prevention Week began Tuesday evening (October 10th) with the highlighting of advances in fire prevention by Fire Marshal Kayla Holiman, reading of the Fire Prevention Week Proclamation by Deputy Mayor Gary Knight, and special recognitions of several City of Yuma fire personnel and others.

Main st House Fire

On Tuesday October 10th, just before 10:00 pm, a fire was reported in the 300 block of Main Street. Arriving Yuma Fire Department personnel found the fire to actually be in the 400 block, with heavy smoke and flames coming from a two story residence at 441 South Main Street. Both stories were on fire with flames coming through the roof of the building. Firefighters worked to contain and extinguish the fire, with fire crews remaining on the scene through the night on “Fire Watch” dealing with hot spots and flare-ups.

Gila Vista CPR Classes

The Yuma Fire Department began training area citizens in Compression Only CPR (COCPR) in early 2009. In September we passed the 10,000th person trained in this critical treatment for cardiac arrest. Although we could not specify a particular person being the 10,000th student, we do know it took place on September 15th during classes at Gila Vista Jr. High School. Nearly 300 Gila Vista students took part in the 6 classes given that day during the Physical Education periods. YFD appreciates Gila Vista allowing us the opportunity to pass on this lifesaving information!
