According to the Center for Disease Control, more than one third of adults 65 and older fall each year in the United States, and among older adults, falls are the leading cause of injury death. This could be something as simple as tripping in a parking lot or more serious incidents, like falling from a ladder or roof. Every week at least 10% of the Yuma Fire Department’s calls for service are fall related. No matter your age or activity, it pays to watch your footing and be careful.

EMS Week

May 20th through the 26th is National Emergency Medical Services Week (or EMS Week). 2018 is the 44th annual observation of EMS Week, with this year’s theme being “EMS Strong: Stronger Together” emphasizing the cooperative 24/7 efforts needed to provide effective emergency medical response. To further mark this week, and promote public education and awareness, each day we will be highlighting a different aspect of emergency care and safety.

River Fire

On Sunday May 20, 2018 just after 11:00 am, a brush fire was reported near Riverside Park, east of the Territorial Prison. Arriving Yuma Fire Department (YFD) personnel found smoke showing approximately ½ mile east of Riverside Park on the south side of the Colorado River.
