Yuma Fire Department Press Releases
Yuma Fire Department’s firefighters, deployed to help with California wildfires, have returned home!
They were notified late Saturday that they were being demobilized Sunday morning, and began the process that ended with them leaving the Fresno, CA area. They arrived back in Yuma late Sunday evening.
Yuma’s firefighters, working as a part of the Imperial Valley Strike Team, first left for assignment to the “Walker Fire” on Sunday August 16th. They arrived in the area of Yosemite National Park early the next morning. They were assigned to structural protection duties. On Sunday August 23rd, the team was reassigned to the “Rough Fire” near Fresno, CA and continued with structural protection duties until yesterday’s demobilization.
All YFD personnel are returning back to their regular duty assignments. Those who were deployed from our department were Fire Captain Erik Lohman, Fire Engineer Kris Leon, Firefighter Gavin Goble, and Firefighter Jose Huizar. We are glad to have them back and congratulate them on a job well done! Our thoughts and prayers continue to be with the Fire Service personnel, their families, and others affected by this season’s wildfires.
