Trailer Fire
Kitchen Fire in RV

On Tuesday March 21, 2017 at about 4:15 pm a trailer fire was reported in the Sun Vista RV Park, 7201 East 32nd Street. Arriving Yuma Fire Department personnel found smoke coming from the front windows of a small mobile home. Firefighters quickly extinguished the fire while searching to confirm there was no one in the trailer.

The fire originated in the trailer’s kitchen and was caused by items left cooking on the stove top. The kitchen of the home sustained significant fire damage, and other parts of the trailer were damaged by smoke. The home was not able to be reoccupied. No one was home at the time of the fire and the American Red Cross was called to the scene to assist the displaced resident.

The number one place fires start in the home is in the kitchen. The most common place for the fire to start is the top of the stove, and the most common cause is unattended cooking. Never leave things cooking unattended, turn off burners if you leave the room. Remember to always “Watch what you heat”.
