Word has been received that the Strike Team our Yuma Fire Department personnel are part of have completed their assignments on the “Walker Fire” and have been reassigned to the “Rough Fire” burning near Fresno, CA.
The Team had been working on the Walker Fire since arriving in the area about 3:00 am last Monday. Their structure protection assignments had mostly been in the Mono Lake area.
The Strike Team started their new assignment yesterday (Sunday August 23rd ) and again will involve structure protection. YFD personnel on assignment with the Strike Team are doing well. Strike Team deployments can last for up to two weeks.
Information available through the National Interagency Fire Center regarding the Rough Fire gives the size of that fire as of this morning at 49,440 acres. In addition, over 2,000 personnel are currently assigned to the Rough Fire. In comparison, the Walker Fire was at 3,676 acres this morning with about 230 personnel working on it.
