Yuma Fire Department Press Releases
On Sunday August 17, 2015 just before 3:00 pm the Yuma Fire Department received a mutual aid request regarding a Strike Team deployment to the “Walker Fire” burning near Yosemite National Park.
Within the next hour an Engine and four YFD personnel left Yuma to meet with other members of the Imperial Valley Strike Team.
The area where this fire is burning is approximately 600 miles from Yuma. The Strike Team arrived on scene at approximately 3:00 am this morning and currently is assigned to protecting structures in an area near Mono Lake. We hope to provide additional information on the progress of our personnel as it becomes available.
A Strike Team usually consists of 5 engines and a team leader drawn from various departments. A team will normally stay together through their deployment and, due to the equipment and training of our personnel, they are expected to continue to be used for structure protection duties.
The last time YFD personnel were deployed with a strike team was in May of 2014 to the “River” fire near Oceanside, CA in San Diego County.
