Brush Fire

On Tuesday October 24, 2017, just after 3:00 pm, a brush fire was reported in the area of the 2800 block of Avenue A, west of Smucker Park. Arriving Yuma Fire Department personnel found areas of brush and trees on fire between Smucker Park and the canal.

The fire spread fast, driven by increasing winds at the time. Firefighters worked to create a fire line to contain the fire spread. The fire was considered contained by about 5:00 pm but still burned with flare-ups and hot spots continuing into the evening. Fire personnel remained on the scene throughout the night, and are still there currently.

Investigators from both the Yuma Fire and Police Departments were on the scene attempting to determine the cause of the fire. Anyone with information regarding this fire are encouraged to contact the Yuma Fire Department at 928-373-4850, or information can also be provided anonymously through the Silent Witness tip line at 78-CRIME (782-7463).
