YUMA, Ariz. - The Yuma Police Department will host a fundraiser on Friday, Dec. 16, as part of continued efforts to support the Law Enforcement Torch Run (LETR) for Special Olympics and to get to know local residents and families in a relaxed environment.
The latest Special Olympics fundraiser comes in the form of a “Tip-a-Cop” event where restaurant guests can make a tax-deductible donation to law enforcement officers serving as celebrity guest waiters and hosts. Each Tip-a-Cop fundraiser is hosted at a different restaurant location throughout town. This time, the Tip-a-Cop fundraiser will be hosted at Famous Dave’s Restaurant, 1501 S. Yuma Palms Parkway, on Friday, Dec. 16 from 11:00 a.m. to 9:00 p.m.. All members of the public are welcome.
The Special Olympics is an international, nonprofit organization dedicated to empowering individuals with intellectual disabilities. LETR helps bring awareness to Special Olympics and obtain donations for the athletes. Funds and awareness raised through this Tip-a-Cop fundraiser will help the athletes continue to have opportunities to make new friends, learn new skills and discover independence while participating in the many events Special Olympics offers.
The Special Olympics offers children and adults with intellectual disabilities training and competition in 30 Olympic-type summer and winter sports. The Special Olympics currently serves more than 2.5 million people in 165 countries.
Yuma Police Department employees and other law enforcement officers will be at the restaurant as “celebrity waiters” and to receive TIPS for Special Olympics. Any donation is tax deductible.
