SCAMS / SPEEDING TICKET EMAIL

It has also come to our attention that people are receiving emails stating “This notice is to inform you that you have been cited with a traffic violation and must pay your citation within 72 hours. We have payment plans available if necessary.” It tells you not to send a check, to make a payment by clicking a link.

It has also come to our attention that people are receiving emails stating “This notice is to inform you that you have been cited with a traffic violation and must pay your citation within 72 hours. We have payment plans available if necessary.” It tells you not to send a check, to make a payment by clicking a link.

This is not a valid email, this is a Phishing email. "Phishing is the attempt to obtain sensitive information such as usernames, passwords, and credit card details (and sometimes, indirectly, money), often for malicious reasons, by masquerading as a trustworthy entity in an electronic communication."

Please do not fall prey to this scam. Do not click on the links provided and do not send any money. Here are some things to be aware of in reference to this email.

  • You will not get an email from the Motor Vehicle Division telling you that you have a ticket. Tickets go through the courts and are paid through the courts
  • There is no violation code listed.
  • There is no contact information listed.
  • The email address is invalid.
  • When you are issued a ticket the officer does not ask you for an email address, how did they get it?
  • We do not have photo radar in Yuma; if you received a ticket you should remember being issued the ticket. If you do get a ticket via photo radar/red light you would be notified by mail by issuing agency      not the Motor Vehicle Division.

If you get an email, phone call or letter and you believe it may be a scam do some research first. If you have questions please call the Yuma Police Department and let us check into it. Bring the scam to our attention so we can get the alert others.
