City welcomes professional Mexican soccer teams for preseason match

The City of Yuma welcomes high-level professional Mexican soccer when the Club Tijuana Xoloitzcuintles host the Morelia Monarcas for a preseason exhibition 8 p.m. Wednesday, July 6 at Desert Sun Stadium.

Presented by Pazzo Sports, the “friendly” is a tune-up for the upcoming Liga MX 2016 Apertura season.

“The commitment to bring a professional-level game to our community is very exciting,” said Yuma Parks and Recreation Director Debbie Wendt. “We’ve been working with Anthony Fernandez from Pazzo Sports, who puts on these types of events all over the United States and Mexico. Desert Sun Stadium has been reserved and paid for, and both teams are looking forward to coming to Yuma for the first time.”

Frontera United, Yuma’s men’s soccer team, “supports this match and will be on hand throughout the event and is also helping to bring this game to town,” Wendt added.

The promoter has indicated to the City an interest in possibly hosting such an event annually in Yuma.

Tickets are $30 each and can be purchased at the Yuma Civic Center, Yuma Art Center or the Parks and Recreation office on the first floor of City Hall, One City Plaza. Children three and under are admitted free.

Online sales are available at ticketon.com or 800-668-8080.

Gates will open at 6:30 p.m. the night of the match.
