A weekly list of City projects or encroachment permits authorized by the City of Yuma affecting busy streets.

10th Street Alley Sewer Project
Crews will begin work on the 10th Street Alley Sewer Project starting Monday, Mar. 14. This project will require the closure of 5th Street from 10th Avenue to Avenue A, and the closure of 6th Street,  also from 10th Avenue to Avenue A. The project is scheduled to finish by the end of next week.

4th Avenue, 24th Street
There will be several road closures, sidewalk closures and reduced speed limits in place for an improvement project at a commercial area of 4th Avenue and 24th Street. All work will be done between 9 p.m. and 5 a.m. beginning in mid-February. Drivers who commute through the area during those hours are asked to proceed with caution. Signs will be posted in the area to alert drivers of detours/closures.

The right northbound lane of 4th Avenue will be closed between 22nd Street and 20th Street. There will be sidewalk closures and reduced lanes near the intersection of 22nd Street and 4th Avenue. Additionally, there will be a partial lane closure on 24th Street between 8th Avenue and 4th Avenue, as well as on a portion of 6th Avenue near its intersection with 24th Street.  Also, 20th Place and 21st Street will be closed to through traffic near each street's intersection with 4th Avenue. Traffic can detour using 20th Street, 21st Street or 22nd Street. The project is scheduled to be completed by mid-May.

Downtown Waterline Replacement
A Capital Improvement Project (CIP) to replace existing six-inch waterlines with new six-inch waterlines is underway and will lead to several road closures in the area of 1st Street on the north side of town. The multi-phase project will be located in several areas: on 15th Avenue, south of 1st Street; on 13th Avenue, from 1st Street to Colorado Street; on 9th Avenue, from 1st Street to 2nd Street; on 7th Avenue, from 1st Street to 3rd Street; and in the alley located between 2nd and 3rd Street.  The first two phases of the project will consist of fusing, boring and paving 8th and 7th avenues, near their intersection with 1st Street. Next, crews will begin working on the alleys on 5th and 6th avenues. During the final phases, work along 9th, 13th and 15th avenues is scheduled to take place and be completed by early May.

Additionally, crews will be replacing pavement, installing new water services, fire hydrants, sidewalk, curbside and gutters. Streets will be limited to local traffic only. The total project is scheduled to last a total 120 days, with work anticipated to occur Monday through Thursday during the week.

Pacific Ave., Gila Ridge Rd.- ADOT
ADOT will be conducting a crack seal project from Mar. 14 to Mar. 16 beginning at the intersection of Pacific Avenue and Gila Ridge Road, then heading north on Pacific Avenue just short of US 95 (16th Street). Work will take place between the hours of 7 a.m. and 4 p.m. While crews are applying the crack seal in the area, a traffic control plan will be in place and will lead to the closure of one lane at a time in each direction. Motorists will still have one lane northbound and one lane southbound along Pacific Avenue at all times. Signs and cones will be placed in the area to guide and assist drivers.

16th St. 1st to 5th avenues
Crews will be trenching and boring the roadway on 16th Street (Highway 95) between 1st and 5th avenues as part of a road improvement project. Work is scheduled to take place during the month of March and could last up to 30 days after its start date. While crews are in the work zone, there will be lane closures along 16th Street, near its intersections with 1st through 5th avenues. All work is scheduled to take place at night, between 9 p.m. and 4:30 a.m. Third avenue will be closed to through traffic between 16th and 17th streets. Signs will be posted in the area to alert drivers of detours.

Avenue B, 16th Street
Southwest Gas crews will be doing annual gas valve maintenance work on the northeast corner of Avenue B and 16th Street for a total of one day, between mid-February and mid-May. When crews are in the area for the one-day project, the right northbound lane on Avenue B will be closed near its intersection with 16th Street. The right westbound lane on 16th Street near its intersection with Avenue B will also be closed. Signs will be posted to alert drivers of the 25 mph speed limit that will be enforced near that intersection while crews are on site. The project is scheduled to be completed by the end of May.

16th Street, Pacific Ave.
Pacific Avenue just south of 16th Street will experience isolated lane closures for the construction of the second entrance to the Gomez Plaza near the intersection of Pacific Avenue and 16th Street. This is part of the Gomez Plaza construction project that includes a right turn lane from Sunridge Drive to 16th Street and a right turn lane from 16th Street into Gomez Plaza near the 16th Street and Pacific Avenue intersection.

1st Avenue, 40th Street
Crews will be working to relocate an existing pole and underground electrical facilities off of 40th Street near its intersection with 1st Avenue, beginning Feb. 23. The project will lead to a lane closure along 40th Street near its intersection with 1st Avenue. Traffic traveling in each direction will be directed to keep right. A reduced speed limit will be enforced and cones will be in place to guide traffic through the narrowed lanes. The project is scheduled to be completed by end of April.

U.S. 95 at Fortuna Wash - ADOT
Work began this week on the $9.3 million bridge on U.S. Highway 95 spanning Fortuna Wash northeast of Yuma and is expected to be completed by next winter. The bridge, partially funded through a $3.2 million federal grant ADOT received in 2011, is going in at milepost 34, approximately 12 miles northeast of Yuma and 10 miles south of the turnoff (Imperial Dam Road) to Yuma Proving Ground. Crews are scheduled to work on the Fortuna Wash bridge project during weekdays between 6 a.m. and 4 p.m. Initial work will include setting up a temporary detour road and tree removals, while actual bridge construction is expected to begin in March. Motorists should allow extra travel time as lane restrictions will be in place and flaggers will occasionally need to alternate traffic through the work zone.

Avenue B, 3rd-6th streets
There will be a sidewalk and partial lane closure along the south side of Avenue B, between 3rd Street and 6th Street, as crews work to repair a leak that will require digging in concrete. The project is expected to take place before May 11, and will take about a full day to complete.

Madison Ave., 10th Street
A sidewalk along Madison Avenue will be closed as crews work to abandon a gas service near the intersection of Madison Avenue and 10th Street. In addition, there will be a lane closure along 10th Street near that same intersection. Signs will be posted to alert drivers as they approach the work zone. The project is expected to take place sometime before the end of March and will last a total of one day.

Maiden Lane, 1st-2nd streets
A 60-day project along Maiden Lane will require the roadway to be closed to traffic from 1st Street to Second Street, between 7 a.m. and  5 p.m. Monday through Friday. Signs will be posted near the area of Maiden Lane and along nearby roadways to notify drivers of detours in the area.

24th Street, Avenue C
An APS project to install two pull-boxes along 24th Street, west of Avenue C, will lead to a reduced speed limit and narrowed traffic near the intersection of the two roadways. The project is scheduled to take place over the course of three to five days and is to be completed by the end of February.
