A weekly list of City projects or encroachment permits authorized by the City of Yuma affecting busy streets.
16th Street and 4th Avenue intersection
The City asks all motorists to plan ahead and to obey the reduced speed limit. Those using residential streets as detour routes are asked to respect the 25 mph speed limit and be attentive for children and pets. While business access will be maintained at all times, those seeking through traffic routes may wish to avoid the construction zone, using roads such as 24th Street, 8th Street or 32nd Street for east-west through traffic, and Arizona Avenue, Avenue A, Pacific Avenue or Avenue B for north-south through traffic.
Castle Dome Avenue, 8-12 streets
Castle Dome Avenue will be closed to all traffic between 8th Street and 12th Street beginning Dec.12 and lasting 1-2 weeks for installations of sanitary sewer lines and electric power line. Detour is Pacific Avenue. Following this work, the City will close 8th Street between Castle Dome and Pacific for roadway reconstruction associated with the Pacific Avenue Athletic Complex.
32nd Street, 3E to 8E - ADOT
Currently, slurry seal has been applied to 32nd Street between avenues 3E and 8-1/2E in this ADOT project. Crews are preparing for road striping and additional work. The project is to be completed by the end of December.
24th Street, Avenue B
On Tuesday, Dec. 13, there will be a lane closure near the intersection of 24th Street and Avenue B. The project will take a total of one day as crews work on a nearby traffic signal. Signs will be posted to alert traffic to the closure as they approach the work zone.
Avenue 3E and US 95 - ADOT
There will be a northbound lane closure on Avenue 3E to allow for the placement a concrete wall barrier along the eastside of Avenue 3E. On Tuesday, Nov. 29, a westbound lane closure will be placed on US 95 to allow for the placement of a reinforced concrete pipe across one half of US 95. Once that placement is complete, traffic will be shifted to the north side of US 95 and the pipe will be placed on the south half of US 95. The intersection will remain open to traffic in all directions during this phase of work, which is scheduled to be completed by Dec. 9. Drivers will encounter lane restrictions and should allow for time delays and extra travel time. The Arizona Department of Transportation (ADOT) will maintain access to businesses in the work zone and keep both roadways open during construction.
This current phase of work is part of a nine-month project to widen and improve US 95 and Avenue 3E. The $3.2 million project will widen both roads to five lanes and to include a turn lane. Work will take place on Avenue 3E from north of the Interstate-8 interchange to past the US 95 intersection, as well as on US 95 from about 500 feet west of the Avenue 3E intersection to just past the Araby Road intersection. Both roads are expected to remain open with lane restrictions in place while the project is underway. Drivers are asked to find alternate routes to avoid potential delays. The project is scheduled to be completed by August 2017.
24th Street, avenues B-C
The street reconstruction of 24th Street from Avenue B to Avenue C is under way. The second phase finished Wednesday, Nov. 23; motorists can now access 24th Street from Avenue B to the Yuma Area Valley Park. The current phase of the 120-day project will require a closure at 24th Street, from the Yuma Area Valley Park to Avenue C. Detour routes include 28th Street, 20th Street and 32nd Street.
Avenue 3E, 32nd-40th streets
There will be a lane closure along Avenue 3E for a project that requires crews to access a manhole on the roadway between 32nd Street and 40th Street. Signs will be posted near the area to alert traffic to the lane closure and possible detours. Additionally, the speed limit will be reduced to 25 mph. The 60-day project is anticipated to be completed by mid-January.
32nd Street, Avenue A
A lane will be closed along 32nd Street near its intersection with Avenue A for a 60-day project that requires access to a manhole in the area. Eastbound traffic will be reduced to a single lane through the intersection area. There will also be a partial lane closure along Avenue A near the same intersection. Signs will be posted to alert drivers of the upcoming closure as they approach the 32nd Street and Avenue A intersection. The speed limit near the work zone will be reduced to 25 mph. The project is expected to be completed by the end of December.
