City of Yuma Primary Election Results

The City of Yuma held its primary election Tuesday, Aug. 25, where voters had three ballot choices and four write-in choices for three at-large seats on the City Council, plus one seat for Municipal Court Judge.  These are the final, unofficial results. Results will become official once canvassed by the City Council.

Yuma, Ariz. - The City of Yuma held its primary election Tuesday, Aug. 25, where voters had three ballot choices and four write-in choices for three at-large seats on the City Council, plus one seat for Municipal Court Judge. 

This is the final, unofficial tally, reflecting a total of 6,280 ballots cast.  With 34,050 resigstered voters, the voter turnout for this election was 18.44 percent.

Shelton, Mike                     3,748      59.7% 

Thomas, Edward                 3,639      58% 

Miller, Jacob                      3,402       54.2%

Mendoza, Raul (write-in)    631        10% 

Madrill, Stephen (write-in)  193          3% 

 

Municipal Judge Votes Cast  Percentage of Ballots Cast 

Farmer-Umphress, Jenny     5,222     83% 

 

Per Yuma City Charter, Article IV, Section 5, any candidate receiving votes constituting a majority of all ballots cast in the primary is elected to office. 

Therefore, all seats have been filled and will not be subject to a general election this November.

Thomas, the current Deputy Mayor and only running incumbent, has been elected to a second term. Shelton and Miller have been elected to their first terms.

Councilmembers-elect will serve 4-year terms beginning Jan. 1, 2016.

The results remain "unofficial" until they are canvassed by the Yuma City Council at an upcoming meeting.
