A bait vehicle is any vehicle equipped with a Global Positioning System (GPS) tracking system and internal video system that activates when the vehicle is tampered with and/or stolen.  The equipment then alerts dispatchers to track and disable the vehicle upon request of the responding officers.  Bait vehicles look like any other vehicles you see on the street.  You may be parked next to one and not even know it.

Although the bait vehicle program is fairly new to the Yuma area, the program has been around for quite some time.  They are not only in the United States but in other countries as well.  Canada has one of the largest bait vehicle programs and puts video footage from bait vehicle arrests on their website.  To view videos of bait vehicle arrests as well as more information regarding bait vehicles visit baitcar.com (This link will take you to an external web site that is not part of the City of Yuma official web site.)
