The Major Functions of Human Resources
Hiring and Recruiting
Human Resources assists all departments in filling open vacancies in a fair, equitable, and legal fashion. The goal of Human Resources is to fill positions with the most qualified candidates based on education and experience.
Benefits and Salary
Human Resources ensures employees are properly compensated for the work they accomplish. This is achieved by constantly evaluating job descriptions and comparing Yuma’s salaries and benefits to other cities and organizations. Human Resources also monitors compliance with employment laws and regulations.
Risk Management/Workplace Safety
Risk Management coordinates programs related to managing the City's risk; this is accomplished by purchase of insurance, safety compliance, training and inspections, special event management, and reviews of employee safety. Additionally, this office coordinates claims, handles property damage, and provides Risk Management consultation to all departments.
Mission Statement
The Human Resources Department exists to provide a full range of human resource management services for employees and residents of the City of Yuma. The activities involved in this mission include those of recruitment, compensation and classification, benefits administration, consulting with management regarding employee issues, compliance with employment laws, and other activities designed to enhance workplace fairness and the City’s ability to attract and retain quality employees.
