The Laboratory Section collects and analyzes a wide variety of samples of river water, well water, our drinking water, and our wastewater.

2/2/2012The Laboratory Section performs sampling and analysis for the City's water and wastewater facilities. Samples are performed to show compliance with the Clean Water Act, the Safe Drinking Water Act, the Arizona Pollution Discharge Elimination System (AZPDES) program, the 40CFR503 Biosolids regulations, the City's POTW Pretreatment program and many other Federal and State environmental programs.
Sampling of the Colorado River, as required by the Figueroa Avenue Water Pollution Control Facility's AZPDES permit, is performed by the Laboratory. The Laboratory also performs all microbiological testing required for the drinking water treatment plants and distribution system. The Laboratory reports the results of routine testing to both ADEQ and USEPA on behalf of the water and wastewater plants.
The Laboratory is the primary point of contact for customer concerns and complaints about drinking water safety and quality. Laboratory personnel respond to each request or complaint usually within the same working day.

Water Quality Information
Regulation of the City of Yuma's potable or drinking water, Public Water System number 14024, falls under the Safe Drinking Water Act (SDWA) with oversight by the United States Environmental Protection Agency (USEPA) and the Arizona Department of Environmental Quality (ADEQ).
Water Quality Report
The Consumer Confidence Report (CCR) or Water Quality Report is mandated by USEPA to be published and available to the public by July 1st each year. The data reported is for the previous calendar year. For example, the CCR published for July 1, 2010 contains data for January through December 2009.
Annual Inorganic Chemical Analysis Report
The samples for the inorganic analyses are collected in January. The data is received by mid-March.

Total Coliform Bacteria
The City of Yuma monitors for Total Coliform bacteria on a minimum of 100 samples per month throughout the City's water distribution area. A maximum of 5% of these samples may be positive for Total Coliform each month. (NOTE: If the sample is negative for Total Coliform, it is negative for E. coli). The City of Yuma's drinking water system is operated and monitored in accordance with the SDWA.
For produce and agricultural entities: if your customers or regulatory agencies require your facility to demonstrate potability for contractual reasons, such as for the Leafy Green Products Handler Marketing Agreement (LGMA), responsibility for related sampling and analysis in excess of that performed by the City of Yuma lies with your staff and facility.
