Deputy Mayor Shoop is serving her sixth term on the Yuma City Council. Appointed to the Council in 1980, she was re-elected in 1982, 1988, 1998, 2002, and in 2006 via the Primary Election.

Councilmember Ema Lea ShoopDeputy Mayor Shoop is serving her sixth term on the Yuma City Council.  Appointed to the Council in 1980, she was re-elected in 1982, 1988, 1998, 2002, and in 2006 via the Primary Election.

Deputy Mayor Shoop is currently a homemaker and community volunteer.

Deputy Mayor Shoop has a tradition of being deeply involved in the Yuma community, including co-founding Yuma Leadership, Inc., co-founding Yuma County Town Hall, and as a resource person for several groups.

On the State level, Deputy Mayor Shoop served on the Agricultural Employment Relations Board from 1993 – 2003.

Currently Deputy Mayor Shoop is a member of the Yuma County Republican Women, Zonta International Club of Yuma, a life member of Beta Sigma Phi, Crossroads Mission Board as Chairman in 2003 and 2004, Yuma Metropolitan Planning Organization, and on the Local Emergency Planning Committee for the City of Yuma.

Deputy Mayor Shoop has served with six different Mayors and four City Administrators.  She has served five terms as the Deputy Mayor, 1983, 1989, 1990, 2003, and 2004.
