Mayor Lawrence (Larry) K. Nelson Greetings!

It is my pleasure, on behalf of the citizens of Yuma, to welcome you to our community. If you are new to Yuma, you will discover why we are the third fastest growing metropolitan area in the state of Arizona.

Yuma is an agricultural garden, steeped in culturally diverse history dating back to 1540 when Hernando de Alarcon became the first European to see the future site of Yuma. In 1849, when gold was discovered in California, Yuma Crossing became the gateway to the west for those seeking their fortunes and other emigrants in search of a better way of life.

Yuma combines small town friendliness with big city capabilities by providing many activities and various types of entertainment for everyone. Yuma's mild winters and temperate summers allow our city to offer year round activities for fitness enthusiasts that includes swimming, camping, cycling, boating, hiking, fishing, sand dune recreation and 13 groomed golf courses to test your athletic abilities.

Needless to say, we can’t list all of Yuma’s many attractions and we hope you will take the time to come and explore all that Yuma has to offer. If there is anything I can do to facilitate your acquaintance with Yuma, please do not hesitate to call upon me at any time.

Sincerely,
Lawrence K. Nelson, Mayor
City of Yuma
