3/2/2010The Yuma Crime Free Multi-Housing Program offered through the Yuma Police Department was implemented in September 1977. John H. Campbell, of Campbell Resources Inc. originally developed this program for the City of Portland, Oregon Police Department.
Three Phase Process
The Yuma Crime Free Multi-Housing Program is designed to help residents, owners and managers of rental property keep drugs and other illegal activity off of their property. The program is solution oriented and designed to give apartment managers the tools they need to assist them in removing criminals from their communities. The program utilizes a three-phase process:
- Phase One: A one-day seminar presented by the Yuma Police Department. This seminar provides owners and managers the basic training necessary to effectively run a crime free program on their property.
- Phase Two: A security evaluation of the rental property. The Yuma Police Department will survey the rental community to ensure it meets minimum safety/security standards.
- Phase Three: The apartment community will host a community event to promote the Crime Free Multi-Housing Program called a Safety Social.
What Happens Next?
Once all three phases are completed, the property will be granted permission to use the Crime Free Multi-Housing signs stating that they have joined the Yuma Crime Free Multi-Housing program. The City of Yuma currently has several certified Crime Free Multi-Housing communities, which can be recognized by the Crime Free Multi-Housing Signs displayed at the entrances of those certified communities.
