The City Attorney is appointed by the City Administrator with the approval of the City Council. The City Attorney’s Office oversees all legal issues involving the City of Yuma. The City Attorney, four Assistant City Attorneys, and support staff review contracts, ordinances and resolutions before they are presented to the City Council for action. The City Attorney’s Office reviews City policies and certain personnel actions, and represents the City in court and other legal proceedings. Either the City Attorney or an Assistant City Attorney attends meetings of City Council and the City Planning and Zoning Commission, as well as meetings of other boards and commissions when necessary. The City Attorney’s Office cannot represent or advise private individuals in legal matters.

City Prosecutor’s Office
The City Prosecutor, who is a part of the City Attorney’s Office, is responsible for the prosecution of misdemeanor offenses and code enforcement actions that occur within the City limits. The City Prosecutor also assists victims of crimes being handled in City of Yuma Municipal Court and victims of such crimes should call the City Prosecutor if they have any questions.
