The Traffic Unit was formed in August of 1977 and consisted of 5 Motor Officers. They were responsible for all traffic related problems, as well as accident investigation and traffic enforcement.
Today, this unit consists of:
- 1 Sergeant
- 5 Motor Officers
- 2 DUI Enforcement Officers
- 5 Civilian Accident Investigators
The Civilian Accident Investigators only investigate traffic accidents, which allow the Motor Officers and DUI Enforcement Officers to concentrate on civil and criminal traffic enforcement and investigation.

Motor training is maintained throughout the Officer's career in the Traffic Unit. The Officer's tour will last between 2 and 5 years, unless they obtain a permanent position.
